Boston Marathon Explosions: At Least 3 Dead, Over 140 Injured

ABC News:

“Two bombs exploded near the finish line at the Boston Marathon on Monday, killing two people and injuring 23 others. Bomb squads are sweeping the area, checking suspicious packages and are testing for chemicals to help determine what kind of device was used.

“The first explosion was heard on the north side of Boylston Street at Marathon Sports running store at 2:50 p.m. ET. It was unclear if the explosion was inside or outside, but it blew out windows in four buildings, officials said. Then about 10 seconds later, another explosion could be heard about 50 to 100 yards away.”

Update: The total of those killed and injured are rising. At this point, police have made no arrests. Per USA Today:

“Two explosions ripped through the Boston Marathon’s crowded finish line Monday afternoon, killing at least three people and injuring more than 141.

“The dead included an 8-year-old boy, The Boston Globe reported, citing law enforcement sources briefed on the investigation. Among the injured, 17 were reported in critical condition. The victims at eight local hospitals were as young as 2.”
