‘Calvin And Hobbes’ Star In The Best April Fools’ Day Joke You’ll See Today

Of all the media that’s ended over the years, there’s none more keenly missed than Bill Watterson’s Calvin & Hobbes. The surprisingly durable adventures of a kid with an overactive imagination and the tiger he brings to life with it has stayed in our minds for decades after the strip ended, especially as it goes so well with Star Wars and Guardians of the Galaxy. And now, for just one day? It’s back.

In place of today’s Bloom County strip, Calvin and Hobbes are back and convinced they’re zombies. It’s not clear if this is Watterson himself doing the art, although he’s definitely not doing most of the lettering. The computer lettering is a bit odd to read at first, but at least he doesn’t do it for the final panel. And if it’s not Watterson, it’s either a very high resolution copy of his work or Berkeley Breathed could start forging his strips tomorrow and make a whole bunch of money.

Regardless of how it came together, it’s classic them, although you’ve got to feel bad for poor Opus. He’s not only had his strip hijacked, he now has a hyperactive grade schooler to deal with. Sadly, it’ll only be for a day, but if nothing else, it’s just nice to have them back, even for only four panels.
