Cate Blanchett and Orlando Bloom in The Hobbit?

Just like last time, Peter Jackson has announced several cast members for The Hobbit at once.  Cate Blanchett will be returning to play Galadriel, the Lady of Lothlorien, who wasn’t in the book.  Some people wondered how Jackson would stretch two movies out of The Hobbit book, and to those people we say never complain about there being too many hobbits.  If there can be seven Saw movies in six years there can damn well be two movies based on The Hobbit.

As for the rest of the casting news, they’ve confirmed ex-Doctor Who doctor Sylvester McCoy as Radagast, and announced Ken Stott as Balin, New Zealand actors Jed Brophy as Nori and William Kircher as Bifur, Ryan Gage as Drogo Baggins, and finally Mikael Persbrandt as the shape-shifting Beorn. In addition, Deadline is reporting that Orlando Bloom is in talks to reprise his role as Legolas, another character not in The Hobbit, and they say he’s negotiating for “more than a cameo”.  You know what that means: all new slash fiction possibilities (not that anything was stopping us before).  And not for nothing, but I would totally watch a sprawling two-part epic starring spaghetti cat.  Hint hint, Peter Jackson.  You like food; we like cats. Let’s do this thing.
