Converse Retroes The CONS Aerojam

Before Kyrie Irving dressed up as Uncle Drew, the early ’90s saw former NBA star Larry Johnson donning an old folks look as the character Grandmama as part of Converse’s ad campaign for their CONS Aero models. And with everything old becoming new again, Converse is bringing back the Aerojam designed “stitch-for-stitch the same silhouette as the beloved original.”

Everything about these bad boys symbolizes the era of big, bulky basketball models with the oversize tongue, the probably unnecessary but appreciated lace shroud that’s both removable and reversible and the REACT juice support system, because every brand back then had their own innovative cushioning going on as part of the selling point. I’m not sure if REACT made the retro (the 2003 retro for the 10th anniversary didn’t), but who the hell is actually going to ball in these anyway? They’re meant to be worn for nothing by old heads and fashion revivalists but style points.

The initial Aerojam launch will come in three colors: the familiar Charlotte Hornets black and teal as well new grey/black and grey/orange colors. Look for them to be available November 14 exclusively at select Foot Locker, Footaction, and Champs stores and online for $110.
