Last week attorney Gloria Allred delivered a letter to the NFL headquarters claiming that a player was allowed to take the field in a game on September 21, a day after her client had gone to police to report being raped by the same player. Allred did not publicly name the player or disclose the claimant’s identity. Tonight, we’re getting more details on the case.

The New York Daily News is reporting the player in question is Dallas Cowboy CJ Spillman who is under investigation for being “involved” in a sexual assault at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas, the team’s hotel since 2009. According to ESPN, Grapevine police spokesman Barry Bowling said a report was filed on September 20 and Spillman has not yet been charged in the case and he has been cooperating with investigation.

Timing, as they say, is sometimes everything.

On September 17, Allred called upon the “NFL to get it right” in handling abuse and assault cases, claiming the league had ignored another client’s multiple claims of abuse at the hands of Brandon Marshall. September 19 will go down as possibly one of the worst days in Roger Goodell’s tenure as commissioner as he finally came out of a week-long exile and admitted the NFL had mishandled the Ray Rice case and promised that the league would do better going forward and, “We will get our house in order first.”

And on the first weekend of getting their house in order, the league couldn’t help but burn the foundation to the ground.
