DC Comics to Advertise on National TV?

DC Comics has a relaunch every three to five years. It just sort of happens, it’s not even an event anymore. But for some reason, possibly falling sales figures, they’re trying to make a big deal out of this one. At least it’s accompanied by a good decision, putting out both print and digital versions on the same day.

So, in a desperate bid for relevance, DC is doing what a major comic publisher has never done: advertise on national television.

What will be the content of these ads? Will they feature men in suits in cheap CGI? Will they have celebrities talking about how much they love comics? Will they be like those lame-ass “book trailers” that just feature some artwork? Who knows?

Personally, I’d tap the creative community and see if anybody out there can make some decent 30-second fan films, but that may be a bit much to ask of a Big Two publisher. Let’s just not make them lame, guys, OK?

Please?
