‘Deadliest Catch’ Star Tony Lara Passed Away At The Age Of 50

Fans of Deadliest Catch love the program not just for its gritty portrayal of crab fishing, but also for the way it allows viewers to get to know the captains and their crew. Sadly, a member of the show’s cast passed away recently. Captain Tony Lara died in his sleep Saturday at his Sturgis, SD home. He was 50.

Lara was hired as skipper of the Cornelia Marie in 2011, shortly after the death of Capt. Phil Harris. He also worked as a crew member on the vessel for much of the ’90s, as well.

An autopsy report for Lara has yet to be released, so his cause of death is still unknown.

Safe travels, captain, wherever you are.
