There are two dog analogies that apply to the latest round of J.Cole versus Diggy.
1. The “Hit” Dog — When Cole let loose his then most recent song last week, we said “a hit dog will holler.” This morning, the dog has been identified as Diggy Simmons who took offense to Jermaine’s lines about an unnamed rapper living off his allowance and the fact that both rappers met face-to-face, hugged out their squabbles and let bygones be bygones. Since Cole didn’t, Diggy decided to pick the beef back up too by firing off “Fall Down,” his diss released this morning by The Breakfast Club.
“I guess I rattled your snaggle-tooth, you know better
I thought ‘J’ stood for Jermaine, not jetsetter
Seen me and shook my hand, coppin’ pleas in person
Now you act like less than a man, mentioning me in verses
You used to have dreams of my big sister kissing you,
Now you having nightmares of her little brother dissing you”
2. The “Sleeping” Dog — Cole should’ve just left Diggy alone because…uhm, Diggy’s holding his own. I’m not sure if Run’s writing these verses or if him and JoJo or sitting around thinking of them, but he’s punching back. Hard.
“Sneak disses and jabs I don’t really see the benefit…Maybe you should sign with me instead of Mr. Carter, How you mad me at me? I got a relationship with my father, huh”
Instead of rousing the sleeping dog, you should have let him lie Jermaine. And it appears that maybe you (and all of us perhaps) underestimated how pesky young Simmons would prove to be. You brought this all upon yourself and now you’re forced to return serve.
We’ll be waiting.
