N*E*R*D – “Help Me” x “Party People”

Probably the biggest disappointment of the summer to me was that Nothing got pushed back to September. Don’t get me wrong here. This summer has been very strong, but summertime & N*E*R*D just belong together. Their brand of music seems to hit a little bit harder when there’s that extra bit of humidity in the air. It was hard to get a handle on the album’s sound from “Hot-N-Fun,” but honestly after Seeing Sounds, I was ready to follow them whatever direction they chose.

Last week the group recorded a live session for MTV and performed two new songs from their upcoming album. The funky instrumentation of the ’70s appears to be where they drew their musical styling from and they’ll get no complaints from me. Straddling that thin line between Rock & Funk, I haven’t quite figured out whether “Help Me” should be taken at face value or I should be looking for some deeper meaning.

A little more straight forward in it’s intentions, “Party People” will be a crowd favorite (as you can hear) when they hit the festival circuit. Plus that brass line and rising flute run on the chorus is fierce. N*E*R*D’s fourth studio album Nothing drops September 7th.
