Even James Cameron Is Tired Of The Flood Of 3D Movies

James Cameron loves him some 3D — Avatar was the spark that set off the current rash of 3D movies, and the guy talks up the medium pretty much every moment is mouth is open, but now it seems as through even James Cameron himself is finding the whole 3D thing a bit annoying. Or maybe he’s just moved on to 5D.

Hit the jump for Cameron’s comments, in which he throws shade at Man of Steel, Iron Man 3 and Hollywood’s use of 3D in general…

“I do not think Hollywood is using the 3D properly. The reason I say that Hollywood is not doing well is because it is automatic. It’s one thing to shoot in 3-D and another to convert to 3-D. […] It’s a matter of studios trying to make money, pushing 3D on directors who are not comfortable or do not like 3D. Man of Steel, Iron Man 3 and all those movies should not necessarily be in 3D. If you spend $150 million on visual effects, the film is already going to be spectacular, perfect.”

Yeah, that’s right, James F–king Cameron just called movie studios out on being too money hungry. Take a good long look at yourself in the mirror Hollywood.

For his part, Cameron claims that the Avatar sequels won’t be about fancy new effects or film techniques. According to The Film Stage

“The filmmaker said that, to one-up Avatar, he will be shifting his focus from creating new technologies to expanding story and characters.”

Well, Cameron certainly left himself a lot of room to expand the characters and story with the first Avatar. Good luck buddy.
