This FDNY Chaplain Saved A Wedding Nearly Wrecked By The New York Crane Crash

A crane collapse in New York on Thursday turned TriBeCa upside down as crews worked to find those trapped by the insanity and begin to clear the scene. But amidst all the chaos, a sweet gesture occurred between an FDNY chaplain and a bride stranded by the insanity. Waiting outside a salon where she was getting her hair done for a City Hall wedding, Nesh Pillay from Toronto almost missed her happy day completely if it weren’t for the kind actions of an onlooking member of the fire department.

In a Facebook post, Chaplain Ann Kansfield detailed the situation in detail,

“Amid the tragedy of the downtown crane collapse, a bride wearing just a spaghetti-strap dress exited a salon. She had been getting her hair done when the crane collapsed. She had planned to get a cab to city hall for the wedding, but no vehicles could get through. She was already shivering in the sleet, so I offered her my coat and walked her the six blocks to city hall. It took a long time for us to walk there she she was wearing heals. Her officiant couldn’t wait. So after getting her to the venue, I got to officiate.”

Not only did Kansfield get to participate in someone’s wedding ceremony on the fly, but she is also the first female fire department chaplain in the history of the FDNY. Most couples leave their wedding day with some leftover cake and a shaky wedding video, but Nesh and her better half will forever be able to tell family and friends about the crane collapse and the amazing kindness of a stranger that turned their straightforward nuptials into an adventurous saga with a joyous ending.
