This Video Of A Burning Fireman Surviving A Two-Story Leap Will Make You Appreciate Firefighters Even More

There are few options present when a wall of flames is pushing against your back and a window — no matter how high up it is — seems to be your only portal to the outside world. Such was the case for this Chinese firefighter, who in the video is attempting to arrange a line to travel down safely from this second-story apartment that is engulfed in flames.

When the attempt to harness a line to the ground fails, the firefighter himself becomes aflame, and he abandons all notions of a safe escape and tries to jump onto some piping close to the window. While he’s not able to firmly secure himself to the piping, he is able to slow his descent to the ground. Fortunately, he only suffered minor injuries to his hands, and is otherwise in safe condition.

Posted Tuesday on YouTube, the video has since gone viral in China, and is doing the same here in the states. According the CCTV News, the incident occurred in China’s Jianli County, Hubei Province.

Godspeed, Mr. Chinese Firefighter. Godspeed.
