Freddie Gibbs – “The Color Purple”

We try not to push tagged tracks around here, but DJ D Nyce’s #Naptown Stand Up Vol. 9 might contain one of the nicest Freddie Gibbs songs we’ve heard in a hot one. Riding a bouncy, yet laid-back James Ingram-esque beat that seamlessly blends into “Drank In My Cup,” Freddie effortlessly weaves back and fourth from gangstafied crooner to double-time rhyme connoisseur – providing the type of multifaceted smooth funk that could actually crossover for Gary, IN’s mixtape killer.

Despite having a catalog of recent classics in our opinion, he doesn’t have that many mainstream looks to date. If ESGN can clean the packaging up and make this a full song, with no tags, more verses and maybe even a background singer – that would be such a great look. For everyone.

After you download below, do yourself a favor and start the track at the :30 mark on your iTunes. That’s the sweet spot.
