On Friday, Kesha‘s request for a legal injunction to make and perform music outside of her Sony contract and creative partnership with producer Dr. Luke was denied. Her original lawsuit contained allegations of a decade of verbal and sexual abuse, which led Dr. Luke to file a countersuit. The messy ordeal has reached some sort of conclusion with this court ruling requiring Kesha to stick to her original contract, at least in part. However, this ruling is merely from a civil standpoint. Up until now, no criminal charges have been leveled against Dr. Luke, but it is possible that Kesha will take further legal action following Friday’s verdict. While her contract with Sony and Dr. Luke still stands, this is probably far from over.

Many of Kesha’s fans and fellow celebrities were very displeased with the ruling, leading them to take to social media to voice their support for the ‘Tik Tok’ singer. Out of their outrage, the hashtag #FreeKesha was born, and has been making the rounds on Twitter.
