How about a nice feel-good story to make your Monday Super Bowl hangover a little less painful? Thanks to Hollywood’s glowing embrace of high school bullying as a plotline, the image of the modern cheerleader has always been one of snobbery and elitism haunting the lives of the normal girls who dream of achieving popularity. Fortunately, that archaic stereotype might go the way of the dodo and shop class if we can somehow convince more kids to act like one small high school cheer team in Idaho.
The cheer squad at Centennial High School in Boise is making news because of a new member that is fulfilling her dream of being part of the team. But Rachel Massengale is, in turn, inspiring everyone else around her, because she’s kicking ass and cheering to her heart’s content despite the fact that she has Down syndrome. Give me an A! Give me a W! Give me an E! and all of the other letters that I need to spell awesome, for the sake of time restraints.
