This Guy’s Simple Google Trick Sums Up Racism In A Nutshell

One needs to look no further than current events to see that racism is sadly alive and well in America in 2016. From the fact that George Zimmerman can attempt to auction off a gun he used to kill a black teen, to #OscarsSoWhite, to the very fact that Donald Trump is the Republican presidential candidate, racism continues to dominate headlines in this modern day and age.

To give one example and prove just how systemic a problem racism in our country is, a guy with the Twitter handle @iBeKabir recorded this video of himself performing a very simple Google trick. First he searches for the images that come up when you google “three black teenagers.” The results are predominately of mugshots and inmates.

“Now let’s just change the color right quick,” he says, replacing the wording with “three white teenagers.” What he yields are generic stock photos of smiling white teens palling around, some holding sporting equipment. The post has unsurprisingly accumulated over 45,000 likes and 50,000 retweets in less than 48 hours at the time of this writing — and those numbers will only continue to skyrocket as the tweet goes viral — obviously indicating that he’s struck a chord with far too many people.
