Gucci Mane Shine

Million dolla n***a but I still eat Church’s

“Shine” is a tricky one to call.

For one, Waka’s on the song and everybody knows he and Gucci aren’t on the best of terms. However, Gucci still claims to own the man’s contract so…yeah. Add to this is that understanding that Guwop is locked away wherever he is so we can assume that the label is the one going through his old files and picking songs to push on his behalf. Gucci’s Tupacian work efforts (“He don’t got no house, he live in the studio” as Waka once put it) means there are probably tons of unreleased material waiting to be heard. As senseless as the Gooch may be, he’s smart enough to plan ahead for all of his jail vacations.

Then there’s Young Thug, who claims he’s not actually on 1017 Bricksquad anymore, which contradicts every other involved party’s take on his situation. I think the kid lost his marbles somewhere along the way and simply neglected to read any contracts he signed.

“Shine” features all of these former friends, family members and labelmates working together for a song that actually works, benefiting from their similar content but slight differences in their style. Gucci brings the gun talk and boasts, Flocka fires off an aggressive verse and chorus and Thug ad-libs his way throughout. It’s like the Neapolitan ice cream of trap rap.

Young Thugga Mane La Flare drops on April 1.
