Guys Went From Testing New Camera To Breaking Down Doors To Save Pets From Apartment Fire

On Saturday, an apartment fire in Rapid City, South Dakota caused a partial collapse of the building’s roof before fire fighters were able to douse the flames. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but witnesses suspect it may have been sparked by a lightening strike. Whatever the case may be, everyone survived, and that’s partially thanks to Reddit user colonel_whiskers and his friends.

According to a /r/Videos post on Sunday, the group was “[recording] an apartment fire” with a new camera, when they “realized we could probably help.” With the camera still rolling, they raced toward the building and helped search for any people or pets who still might be trapped. The end result? No deaths or life-threatening injuries, and the gang even rescued what appears to be a rather distrustful corgi from one of the units.

However, this is Reddit we’re talking about, so of course a few commenters were all too happy to pick the video apart and critique the group’s rescue efforts. All sound advice, like Fourteen_of_Twelve‘s suggestion that they break open locked doors with their feet instead of their shoulders, as this can lead to severe injuries. Sure enough, the OP agreed:

My friend injured his shoulder during this so we’ll definitely change it up next time we break down some doors, haha.

I mean, as long as you’re trying to save folks from another apartment fire, then sure. (Also, don’t start any fires to try this out, please.)
