There’s something about John Hughes movies that make you want to curl up with a loved one and enjoy the goofy-yet-morally-wholesome tales that only he could expertly provide. Home Alone is the ultimate example of this. Hughes’ movies are simply perfect for Christmas. And how many other filmmakers can say they have 2.5 classic Christmas movies in their catalogue? (Hughes also wrote Christmas Vacation and the Miracle on 34th Street remake but the remake was unnecessary.)

Even with Hughes’ long track record of hits, Home Alone transcends his teen sex romps and comedies to stand out as a perfect Christmas movie. It’s been entertaining young and old for over twenty-five years, and even those who watch the adventures of Kevin McCallister every holiday (the entire country of Poland) will be surprised to know how much information has been kept swept under the rug.

Can you believe that the legendary John Candy improvised all of his lines in a single day of shooting? Did you know Chris Farley was supposed to be in Home Alone, which would’ve put Chris Farley and John Candy in the same movie, thus jumping the shark of lovable fat guy from Second City awesomeness?

Oh yes, there’s more. So sit back, relax, and watch our video revealing five things you didn’t know about Home Alone.
