Sir Patrick Stewart was a first-time guest on The Howard Stern Show this morning, and it was certainly an eye-opening interview that revealed a lot about everything from his work as Professor Charles Xavier to a debate with his wife about his circumcision, or lack thereof. But the always blunt Stern also touched on a favorite subject of his, Donald Trump, and whether or not people are taking the current Republican poll leader seriously in his quest for the GOP nomination.

Stern said that while entertaining some friends for dinner recently, he revealed that he sincerely believes that the controversial, trash-talking, and unapologetically offensive real estate mogul will win the party’s nomination. Why? Because Stern thinks that the common people are just tired of business as usual politicians.

“I’ll tell you why I think he’s going to be the nominee: he’s proven that no matter what he says, people dig him,” the host added later. “And I also think that a lot of people are of the mind that — they hate illegal immigrants, but they just feel funny saying it, whether it’s rational or not. Is the illegal immigrant draining your economy? Possibly. Is he taking your job? Possibly.”

“But I think more or less, people are super tired of politicians, meaning that they like the idea of a successful businessman running the country who might actually be able to get shit done,” Stern continued, before comparing Trump to “b-list movie star” Ronald Reagan. “And so they are looking back toward those days and hey maybe that’s the answer. Forget all these politicians who are professionals, we want to try somebody who is used to a business kind of thing.” (Via Mediaite)

Stern (seen above with Trump at a Knicks game in 2005) seems as fascinated by Trump’s current run as anyone else, and his confidence in Trump winning the nomination might stem from knowing how his brain works from interviewing him in the past. Last month, Stern also discussed the rise of Trump with Alec Baldwin, who told him that Trump is the candidate we deserve right now, because of how corrupt the political system has become.
