The Indiana Pizza Shop At The Center Of The Gay Marriage Debate Has Closed Due To Death Threats

Memories Pizzeria in Walkerton, Indiana is no more. After the owners told local news that they wouldn’t cater gay weddings due to their religious beliefs (leading many to question whether gay couples would even want pizza at their wedding), national media picked up on the interview and the business was flooded with horrible Yelp reviews, fake orders, and, according to Mediaite, even death threats:

Owner Kevin O’Connor spoke to Fox News tonight and said, “Because I don’t believe in something that they want, they see fit to be angry about it… It’s just been ugly. I don’t know what to call it.”

O’Connor and his daughter Crystal — who was prominently featured in the original interview — don’t know when or even if they’ll reopen the restaurant. The New York Daily News reports that donations are already starting to pour in for the shuttered business, but Crystal O’Connor says the family is hiding in their house for now.
