Jarren Benton – “Shut Up B*tch”

I really wasn’t sure what to expect when Jarren Benton first set foot on our Perfect Attendance stage back in October with a Davy Crockett ‘coon hat on. Whoever coined the phrase “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover” obviously didn’t meet too many rappers, because nine times out of ten a rapper’s attire will be a dead giveaway as to what music will come out of their mouth. Benton, like a slew of Atlanta rappers who’ve come before him, is that one out of ten to foil conventional thought.

Any preconceived notions are quickly thrown out of the window once he and half of the Eastside of Atlanta hit the stage as he performed “Shut Up B*tch” and acted as the wind beneath my wings that carried me throughout the rest of the night. The Kato produced “Shut Up B*tch” is about as PC as a Klan rally and is the lead single for Jarren’s upcoming project Freebasing With Kevin Bacon, which drops in February. The energy he put out while performance isn’t captured correctly in this recording, but that doesn’t make it any less entertaining.
