Jordy Nelson’s Unsuccessful Challenge Flag Subterfuge

Mike McCarthy very nearly Jim Schwartz’d himself by throwing a red flag to challenge a fumble. That could have been a catastrophe had McCarthy not thrown it after the officials had already decided to review it, given the inane rule the NFL has about coaches throwing a red flag before an automatic review. Nevertheless, the Packers were penalized 15 yards for the challenge flag toss even though the play was reviewed and overturned in their favor. Jordy Nelson tried to avoid what might have been an embarrassing disaster by hiding the red flag in his pants, but that’s the thing about NFL fields: there are eyes everywhere.

Also nice that Jordy Nelson has more situational awareness than his head coach.
