Kevin Smith’s Human Walrus Horror ‘Tusk’ Is Going Wider Than Smith Himself

Kevin Smith’s Tusk — a Human Centipede-style movie in which Justin Long is forcibly altered into a walrus man by Michael Parks — is getting a wide theatrical release this Fall. To recap, Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier brainstormed Tusk during an episode of their podcast last June after they heard about the guy seeking a roommate to dress up like a walrus.

Smith finished the script and secured $2 million of funding in a ridiculously short amount of time. Only four months after joking about the movie idea during one of his 800 different podcasts, Smith was tweeting a picture from the set of Tusk. Here’s that picture:

Okay, I lied. The set picture is actually in this one of Chareth’s characteristically Smith-bashing posts.

Even though Tusk didn’t screen at Sundance last weekend, the producers did issue a press release to announce the movie will have a wide release in the U.S. this fall and will be taken to international buyers at next month’s European Film Market.

TUSK is a modern-day monster movie that follows a journalist named Wallace (Justin Long) who finds the story of a lifetime in Mr. Howe (Michael Parks), a worldwide adventurer with amazing tales and a curious penchant for walruses.

Also starring in the film are Haley Joel Osment and Genesis Rodriguez, playing friends of Long’s character who are trying to find him.

The press release also contained the obligatory Press Release Quote™.

“It’s an honor to support the work of Kevin Smith, a filmmaker we’ve revered for years. His bold and uncompromising vision for TUSK is a game-changer and one that we know will yield a memorable film that will leave audiences breathless,” says XYZ Films.

We give this Press Release Quote™ four out of five dismissive wanking motions.
