Kim Kardashian Claims The Paris Robbery Made Her A Better Person: ‘It Was Meant To Happen To Me’

Kim Kardashian is speaking out for the first time — well, second time, if you count her highly produced reality show — on her ordeal in Paris in which she was robbed at gunpoint by five men who made off with an estimated $10 million in diamonds and jewelry and made her fear for her life. In an interview airing on Ellen Thursday, Kardashian tearfully explained that she now thinks that the incident was meant to happen to her and has left her a different person.

“I really feel like things happen in your life to teach you things, she said. “It was probably no secret, you see it on the show … like I was definitely materialistic before, and not that there’s anything bad with having things and working hard to get those things.” However, she continued, “I’m so happy that my kids get this me, and this is how I’m raising my kids, because I just don’t care about that stuff anymore.”

Those are pretty strong words coming from basically the queen of Instagram, but a harrowing ordeal like the one she experienced is enough to make anyone reassess their life. Kardashian went on to reveal that her robbers had been following her on social media and planning the heist for two years beforehand, and that it has actually made her strongly consider whether or not she’ll ever wear expensive jewelry again.

In the end, she admits, “It was like, seven or eight minutes of torture, but when I look back and I analyze it, I’m like, it could have been way worse … I’m out, I’m home, I’m safe, I’m such a better person.”
