Kim Novak Has Responded To All The Bullies From The Oscars With An Open Letter On Facebook

A lot of people had a lot of things to say about Kim Novak’s appearance at the Oscars. She’s 81. That she still had enough gusto to walk out with Matthew McConaughey and keep a sense of humor about it all was cool with me. Others weren’t too kind, and she’s finally responded in an open letter on Facebook. From The Hollywood Reporter:

Kim Novak says that cruel jabs about how she looked during the Oscar ceremony amounted to bullying that left her crushed at first, but then determined to speak out in protest.

“It really did throw me into a tailspin, and it hit me hard,” Novak, 81, said in a telephone interview Thursday, after she released an open letter condemning remarks by Donald Trump and others about her appearance.

In her letter, Novak said: “I will no longer hold myself back from speaking out against bullies. We can’t let people get away with affecting our lives.”

You’d think Donald Trump would have accepted his lifetime ban from making fun of other people’s appearances. Nope.

Trump tweeted during the Oscars that Novak should “sue her plastic surgeon,” while others noted how unnaturally smooth-faced the veteran star of Vertigo and other classic films looked — even though actresses are pressured to look forever young.

Here’s Ms. Novak’s response from her open letter.

After my appearance on the Oscars this year, I read all the jabs. I know what Donald Trump and others said, and I’m not going to deny that I had fat injections in my face. They seemed far less invasive than a face-lift. It was done in 2012 for the TCM interview special. In my opinion, a person has a right to look as good as they can, and I feel better when I look better.

When I was honored at the Cannes Film Festival last year, I received an overwhelming standing ovation. Yet, in Hollywood, after the Oscars, I was bullied by the press and the public on the Internet and TV. The only difference that night was that I had taken a pill to relax—that I shouldn’t have taken. I had been fasting for three days and it affected my behavior. I regret taking it.

Yeah, I’m no doctor but fasting for three days and taking a pill just seems like a bad idea. Read her entire open letter here.
