Sunday morning gets off to a roaring start as the dominate Dutch Oranje finally face a brick wall with El Tri. The Netherlands have scored the most goals this tourney as the 2010 runners-up revenge tour continues to rip through opponents; downing Spain 5-1, Australia 3-2 and Chile 2-0. On the other side of the ball, Mexico has only allowed one ball to cross the goal line in three games — a late, garbage time score by Croatia in the last game of group play when Mexico was already assured passage to the knockout rounds — as goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa continues to put on a clinic on net safety. He’ll have his hands full as Robin van Persie comes back for the Dutch after serving his one game suspense against Chile. Either way, keeping my garden hose ready in case my Northeast Los Angeles neighborhood goes up in flames for happy fireworks or angry fireworks at lunchtime.

If there is going to be a good game for napping, well, Costa Rica-Greece has you covered if you need to rest up after mowing the lawn this afternoon. While no one in their right mind would have picked either of these teams to be moving on to the final eight, here we are trying to remember how it is these two teams are playing and not the more monied teams from England and Italy from Group D. We have a relatively underwhelming Greek squad that was routed by Colombia 3-0 in their opening match, then went on to a nil-all draw with Japan before finally squeaking by Cote d’Ivoire in their final Group C game for a spot in the second round. Costa Rica on the other hand has shown a spark behind a young Joel Campbell who lead the side to a 3-1 de-pantsing or Uruguay, shocking Italy 1-0 before drawing 0-0 with a pining for the fjords English side, all the while not looking like they have even close to the level of talent and skill as other group leaders have demonstrated so far this tournament. Feels like a draw in the making, so the cheers for kicks to end the game should work as a gentle alarm clock to wake you for dinner.
