LeBron James has always been about image. He wears the world’s biggest headband to cover up his scribbled-on, receding hairline. When someone dunked on him, the video had to be removed from existence. And he needed Dwyane Wade to sit next to him during post-game press conferences.
It’s as if his image was a buffer for his perceived shortcomings on the court.
And up until LeBron drained a mid-range shot with 20 seconds left in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, those image issued persisted. Now, though, LeBron’s legacy is cemented. And it’s time to just stop the debating. King James is the best player in the world and the questions of his ability to win in the clutch are gone. He’s no longer competing with anyone in the league anymore.
So, LeBron went on the cover of Sports Illustrated, jagged hairline in tow…with his second straight NBA championship sitting eight inches away from it.
As obnoxious as some people say his post-game posing with the trophies was, this was as subtle a f*ck you as LeBron could ever come up with.
What can you say now? Who cares about an image? LeBron is the best in the world and your lulz don’t matter. Now we can just sit back, relax and enjoy the greatness.
