Intro By Gotty | Words By Ray P
All eyes on Las Vegas this weekend as the 2014 Life Is Beautiful Festival takes over the city’s downtown with a countless number of big name music acts. Our friend Ray P from The Shoe Game’s in in the mix of action, taking it all in from behind his camera lens and for the next few days he’ll be sharing pics plus a few words for each day’s events. Day one was highlighted by sets from Kanye, Girl Talk and The Weeknd.
This man played the best, most diverse DJ set I’ve heard in a long time and I’ve heard A LOT of DJs over the past three years. From keeping the energy high with bouncy tunes to showing his mash-up skills like laying Outkast vocals over Nine Inch Nails or mixing Drake and EDM, he held it down 100%. With a festival offering such a diverse lineup, if you wanted to listen to it all at one stage Girl Talk set was the place to be.
This was my first time seeing The Weeknd live and the guy can sing his ass off. Highlights were “Loving The Crew” and “Or Nah” got a lot of people dancing. The rest of his set was real mellow and intimate, probably a better fit for checking out with a ladyfriend so you can grab her booty while y’all sway left to right.
I was praying for Yeezy adidas news, but all we got was a really happy Kanye and hit after hit. It’s worth attending his show just to listen to the drop on “Blood On The Leaves” through show speakers. The highlights for me were “All Falls Down” and “Touch The Sky” and, instead of a rant, we received the lighter side of Yeezus. “I’m really happy right now and in a good place,” Kanye shared with the crowd. “I’m happy to see my daughters personality grow and, Kim, it’s her birthday, we’re going to Tao to celebrate. That wasn’t a plug because I got paid, I just thought you’d want to know where we about to turn up.”
