Local News Station Laughably Tries To Fake A Near-Accident To Sensationalize A Story

Look, I get that — as a local news station — there are more interesting stories to cover than a crosswalk that gets routinely neglected by motorists. Like, a cat stuck in a tree! I get that. But Utah’s Fox 13 News made a horrendous error in judgement by trying to “liven up” their story about a dangerous crosswalk by using a teenage girl to fake a near accident — very, very poorly — to illustrate their point.

Not only is it painfully obvious that the car only starts driving when the girl steps into the road, but when she stumbles backwards to try to avoid the harrowing near-death experience, she actually trips over the curb, potentially actually injuring herself, which the reporters play off by saying she “collapsed” due to the shock of being nearly hit by a car.

To make matters worse, someone on Reddit who claims to drive past the intersection every day says that just out of frame is a pedestrian-walking bridge. Guys, if you’re going to make up the news, at least make it good. Something about a caped, crime-fighting duck would probably play well. Just report on literally the plot of Darkwing Duck. Anything would be better than this.
