When one wins the lottery, there are many things on the wish list that can be attended to… buying a house for your parents, paying for your kids’ education, quitting your job to spend months on the coast of Jamaica. For one woman in North Carolina, though, the first priority was to make sure Hot Sauce didn’t spend another night in jail.
Marie Holmes hit the jackpot back in February, when a winning Powerball ticket resulted in her hauling in an $88 million lump sum. It’s a good thing she won it, too, because one of her first orders of business was bailing out her fiancé who goes by the street name of “Hot Sauce.” Sauce was arrested in November of 2014 for allegedly taking part in a heroin racket that resulted in authorities seizing 8,000 bags of the drug. Just weeks after Holmes became a millionaire, Sauce — real name Lamarr McDow — was released on a $3 million bond.
On July 23, police came to the home that Holmes and Sauce shared to arrest Sauce for violating his pre-trial curfew. When they entered the home, they smelled and found marijuana along with a firearm, which is a no-no. Holmes, Sauce, and several other people were arrested for drug possession, as well as possession of a firearm. Just like before, Sauce skated out of jail, this time on a $6 million bond. A bondsman won’t say who exactly posted the bond, but unless Sauce has several millionaires as friends, it was likely Holmes.
Holmes went to Facebook to respond to those hating on her philanthropic choices:
“What Y’all need to be worried about is Y’all money and not how I spend mine this is benefitting Y’all how? And no he’s no drug dealer or user but who are Y’all to judge anybody? I will definitely pray for Y’all because it’s much need…they talked about Jesus so I’m not surprised Y’all are talking about me but be blessed though.”
The moral of this story is to get a cool “street name.” It comes with a get-out-of-jail-free card, Y’all.
