Marshawn Lynch Ends Holdout

On the eighth day of his holdout, Marshawn Lynch announced that he will in fact report to Seahawks camp within the next 24 hours. As of Tuesday, the Seahawks could have fined him $405,000 for the time he missed, with the figure raising by the day.

Per the rules of the NFL’s collective-bargaining agreement, Lynch can be assessed fines of $30,000 per day for each day he misses.

Beginning Tuesday, the sixth day of camp (the countdown started when players officially reported for camp last Thursday) Lynch can be fined 15 percent of a $1.5 million signing bonus for this year in addition to the daily $30,000 fine.

Lynch is set to make $5 million in 2014, according to the four-year, $30 million deal he signed in 2012. Lynch wanted to restructure and even though he’s been very effective over the past few seasons, there’s not a ton of leverage for running backs in today’s NFL, especially 28-year-old ones with 300+ touches each of the last two years.

It wasn’t all for naught. Marshawn won’t get added money, but the team is reportedly throwing in some financial concessions to his current contract, though it’s not yet clear what those are.

For now, the drama is over. Lord knows Marshawn’s mom was getting tired of defending her son on social media.
