Marvel President Comments On Avengers Rumors (Plus New Photos)

“Choose Your Avenger”? If I turn to page 24, I’m gonna die aren’t I? That’s how these books usually work.

We have to wait till May 4th to stop talking about The Avengers, er, I mean, to go watch The Avengers, so we’ll have to settle for the pictures and quotes in this Thursday’s issue of Empire. SuperheroHype transcribed some quotes from Empire’s article, which you can skip if you don’t want to hear anything about aliens or the Red Skull. Marvel president Kevin Feige was interviewed about the enemy hinted at in set photos:

“Who said they were aliens?” he teases. Beings from the Nine Realms, then, ventures Empire? “Closer…It’s not Skrulls, I’ve been clear about that. Beyond that, we want to hide it. The identity of the alien race is not impactful. It exists in the comic books, but we’re not setting up the Kree-Skrull war or anything like that.”

He was also asked if Red Skull (Hugo Weaving) would be returning for a cameo:

“Was Skull vaporized at the end of the movie, or thrust into another realm?” asks Feige. “That remains to be seen. It would be fun to see Skull in future, but he’s not in this one.” [Director Joss] Whedon though is a little more circumspect when Empire confronts him. “I do have a comment on that,” he says, before pulling a move worthy of Loki himself. “It’s…oh, you’re breaking up!”

Whedon is such a Skull tease.

Empire is also printing four different character covers, a group cover for subscribers only, and a few set photos, all of which are available below through powers granted to us by a cosmic cube (read: a flatbed scanner).
