Possibly The Oldest McDonald’s Employee Ever Celebrates His 100th Birthday

Last week in Needham, Massachusetts, McDonald’s employee Morris Miller celebrated his 100th birthday — possibly making him the oldest McDonald’s employee ever. Miller began his career at the fast food chain when he was just 75-years-old. Think about that. A quarter of his entire life. From CBS Boston:

As he got into his 90′s, though, his employer thought better of the heavy lifting. For the last several years, the owner, Tim McCoy, has just paid Morris to show up a few hours, three days a week, to enjoy a free breakfast and do what he does best: chit chat with customers.

“He’s funny,” said customer Annette Orlando. “He makes us all laugh.”

Morris, it seems, is the ultimate ambassador at the restaurant and the owner has no desire to mess with that. “This is what keeps all the customers coming back. His smile and his determination,” says McCoy.

McDonald’s is not typically known for treating their employees with kindness and respect, or even paying them a living wage — but damn if this story isn’t a bit touching. Paying this old timer to have a free breakfast and socialize with customers a few times a week buys McDonald’s about as much goodwill as — well, let’s be honest, about five minutes of goodwill because they’re still a pretty horrible corporation. At any rate: Good job, McDonald’s of Needham, Massachusetts.
