Of all the things that breast implants are supposed to do — enhance confidence, raise self-esteem, create allure — exploding isn’t one of them. There’s also no way that an unnamed Chinese woman had any idea that her implants, which had satisfied her for three years, would suddenly turn into deadly bombs intent on destroying her body. And that was just the beginning of her many, many troubles.
The Daily Mail reports that the woman, who had gotten her breasts enlarged by two cup sizes in 2002, was happy with everything for several years, until she began noticing a horrifying pain in her chest. She knew something was wrong, but she was too embarrassed to see a doctor, even when she began growing strange lumps all over her sides and back:
Although she tried to bear the pains and ignore her ‘torso boobs’, great pains and pressure from the family have led her to see a doctor at Fuzhou General Hospital earlier this month.
Dr Chen Shengjin from the hospital said the implants had completely broken and leaked into her back, blood vessels in the chest and even muscles.
Parts of her muscle tissues have been corrupted and ‘the two sides of her breasts had begun to decompose’, according to the doctor.
There’s nothing that sounds worse than that. Not even getting your penis skinned or popping the world’s largest pimple. Fortunately, the woman is recovering from the effects of the explosion. She had all traces of the implants removed on April 19th.
This is not the first time such a bodily crisis has occurred. Due to the fact that Chinese plastic surgeons used what is now considered a “highly toxic” gel to enlarge breasts, there’s been at least one more publicized case of a woman whose implants went awry. According to The Daily Mail, of the estimated one million women whose breasts were enlarged by the substance, less than 10 percent have had their implants removed since 2000.
