Oh, Metal Gear Solid V — somehow Hideo Kojima has managed to make this game’s development as confusing and convoluted as one of his plots.
Back in the summer of 2012 Kojima unveiled Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, but then a few months later at the Spike VGAs a trailer for a mysterious, very Metal Gear-like game called The Phantom Pain was shown. Eventually it was revealed that Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain were two different code names for the same game — none other than Metal Gear Solid V. Ground Zeroes would be the title’s prologue and The Phantom Pain would comprise the main meat of the game. Ah, but now it turns out Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain are separate games again! God-dammit Kojima.
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will be released as a stand-alone title in the spring of 2014 for the Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One and PS4. The game will cost 29.99 or 19.99 if you download it on the Xbox 360 and PS3 (it’ll still cost 30-bucks if you download it on the Xbox One or PS4).
Okay, time to take bets — how many separate games will Metal Gear Solid V be spit into before all is said and done? I’m saying at least four.
