Freeway – Listen (Prod. By Jake One)

Freeway and Jake One have chemistry. That was evident back in 2010, when they teamed up to put out The Stimulus Package. Freeway finally sounded hungry again as he raced over Jake One’s soulful slaps, and the duo came up with one of the better projects of the year. It earned four-cigs from TSS upon its release, topped our year end slept-on list and still gets burn around my way, which I suppose is the greatest testament of all in today’s age of disposable music.

Beautifully, “Listen,” the latest release from Freeway’s upcoming album Diamond In The Rough, shows that that chemistry hasn’t slipped away. Jake One does his thing behind the boards, melding hand claps, smooth piano, strings and vocals together into a gem of an instrumental. Freeway comes with it on the mic, attacking the beat aggressively. Smooth and soulful, this is an excellent joint. Hopefully, Diamond In The Rough is just as good throughout.

If you’re jonesing for more Freeway and Jake One in the meantime, their The Beat Made Me Do It mixtape is still available as well. The Stimulus Package is still out there too, cool case and all.
