Oddisee – “Mattered Much”

“Mattered Much,” off Oddisee’s recent Rock Creek Park release, was originally buried deep on a hard drive, a track brought into this world without a destination. It’s ridiculous, considering how much time and care went into it. Oddisee laid the drums and wrote the rhymes, pulled in Andy Faus to do a little something on guitar and Lucan Pipkan to put together the strings and got Oliver Daysoul to do the hook. And it’s not like he had nothing to say, when you hear lines like “You know, some things matter the most but to me seem mundane / I don’t know why I’m above things.” Damn. He was peering into his heart as he wrote that. But as time moved past, “Mattered Much” slipped into the recesses of his hard drive, seemingly never to see the light of day.

However, it didn’t stay there, thankfully for the listening public. Instead, Oddisee shook off its electronic dust a little while back and put it on the LP. Luckily, this smooth, easy track was too good to go to waste.

Rock Creek Park is available on Bandcamp now.
