The Internet Was Not Kind To The New York Mets Following Their World Series Loss

The New York Mets fell to the Kansas City Royals on Sunday night in Queens, losing the World Series to KC four games to one. Losing a clinching game and letting a championship slip through your grasp is always a tough feeling for any athlete or sports fan, but Game 5 was particularly heartbreaking for the Mets and their supporters.

Matt Harvey was dominant in his start on Sunday night, holding a good Royals lineup to no runs through eight innings of work. Heading into the ninth, the Mets held a 2-0 lead and leaned on Harvey to finish up what he had started. It’s hard to question the managerial call because the Mets’ starter was so good all night, but he wasn’t able to get the final three outs he needed to finish off the complete game and force a Game 6.

Instead, Harvey faced two batters and retired neither. Combine that with some suspect defense, and the Royals, who made a habit of being pesky comeback masters this season, tied up the game and forced extras. It wasn’t until the 12th inning that the 2-2 score was finally broken, with the Royals ripping off a five-run 12th that would put the dagger in the hearts of Mets fans everywhere.

It was a painful way to go down, and of course the Internet — in typical Internet fashion — found ways to rub salt in the wound.
