Nine Inch Nails Scores “The Darkness II”? Really?

Is everybody sure that’s NIN on the soundtrack?

Not that we don’t love Trent Reznor, but if everybody and their mom hadn’t been going on about how this was a Nine Inch Nails score, we wouldn’t have even guessed it was, well, anybody we even knew of, with the possible exception of crappy action movie virtuoso Brian Tyler. It’s that cheesy and dated.

We don’t often talk about game scores here at Gamma Squad, although perhaps we should, since every year, they vastly improve, and beginning to rival film scores. Michael McCann’s ambient work on “Deus Ex” and Andrew Hale’s jazzy and mournful score for “L.A. Noire” are just two examples from the last year of games with a really superbly done score. So maybe instead of hiring Nine Inch Nails, the industrial rock band, guys, you should Trent Reznor, Oscar-winning composer. Just saying.

Trailer under the jump if you want to give it a listen.

Hat tip to Kotaku for pointing this out.
