Here’s What We Know About The Umpqua Community College Shooting In Oregon

The above video shares a preliminary CNN report of a mass shooting that took place on the Umpqua Community College campus in Roseburg, Oregon. The incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. Pacific Standard Time. Details are still coming in, but the most recent report from CBC News says that the Oregon Attorney General states that there are 13 casualties with an NBC affiliate reporting that the shooter is dead. Previous reports had indicated that the unnamed shooter was in custody. CBC confirms (along with CNN) that the shooter is dead.

NBC news quotes Larry Howell with these observations from the scene: “I turned around. I heard active shooter and I didn’t need to be told twice.”

This photo, posted on Twitter by Mike Sullivan, shows first responders on the scene.

Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley expressed sorrow and prayers to the victims and their families.

One student, who goes by Kayla Marie on Twitter, reported what she witnessed during the incident.

In a disturbing twist, the New York Daily News has uncovered a screenshot taken from a 4Chan community. This screencap (you can see the larger version here) features a statement believed to be from the shooter. Again, this posting could be a forgery, but it warns, “Don’t go to school tomorrow if you are in the Northwest… So long, space robots.”

Again, reports are still coming in, so these details may change over the next few hours. We’ll keep an eye on this story and update accordingly.
