Pewdiepie Has Changed, And No One Is Happier About That Than Pewdiepie

Pewdiepie has been filling the internet with his special brand of humor for nearly six years. There’s no denying his massive popularity, and if he isn’t for you, that’s fine. Even Pewdiepie can admit that his past self was pretty awful sometimes, and nobody’s perfect. From the way his videos were created and (not) edited, to the language he used, the man whose birth certificate reads Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg is quite aware of his past mistakes.

In his most recent, mega-popular video, Pewdiepie addresses fans that preferred the “old” Pewdiepie. He goes back to look at some of his classic footage that he uploaded, and beyond technical misgivings, is quite upset at himself for labeling certain game characters “gay” or describing an idea of his as “retarded.” He considers himself a comedian, and most comedians know not to afflict the afflicted.

“Exposing myself here, but I don’t know, I really don’t like that. I still make kind of stupid jokes that I shouldn’t make, but I feel like back then I didn’t understand. I was so immature, and I just thought things were funny just because they were offensive. So I would say a lot of stupid shit.

And when you’re ad-libbing your way through a game play through, things you’re not proud of uttering can slip past, but that’s no excuse, and Pewdiepie is owning up to it.

“I’m not proud of it, I’m really not. But I’m also glad that I’ve grown past it… Back then I felt like I was very childish, and very confused.”

Seeing one of the biggest YouTube stars discuss their past behavior in this light is interesting, considering the internet can be a dark place and full of terrors.
