Phil Adé: 1st Team All-Conference

In Hip-Hop nowadays, all a rapper needs is one shot, one co-sign and/or one fantastic feature. Flying high off his Don Cannon-backed mixtape, The Letterman, and an all-star aligned remix that would make the folks at G.O.O.D. proud, DMV emcee Phil Adé has attained all three and has seen his star rapidly rise in 2010. And with the release of the 6ix Shoota-directed video to one of The Letterman’s signature tunes, “Toast 2 Life,” the 368 Music Group poster boy looks to continue his torrid pace.

The song’s airy beat and sinuous wordplay narrates the video–and Adé’s dream sequence–as he leads the camera through a patchwork of hometown shots. Gaining confidence–and tuxedo pieces–as his sleepy, lyrical trek unfolds, the video sees the D.C. native swapping Jordans for Shelled-Toes, sipping on the finest bubbly and holsting a salud to his newfound acclaim with the song’s harmonizer, Kevin Ross. However, all dreams must come to an end and the project’s conclusion sees the disoriented rapper being brought back to reality in his less than glamorous hotel room. But with more of the same audio and visual candy, Adé could quickly see champagne and black-and-white affairs as daily, non-REM-induced realities.

Also, check Mr. Adetumbi’s additional gift to his growing fanbase, the Jamie Aquino-directed video for “Borderline.”
