You know, Philly gets a lot of crap. And sometimes, deservedly so. We’re blunt, we’ve all got a chip on our shoulders the size of the dang Liberty Bell, and sometimes, we can be a bit offensive. Additionally, we will boo your corny-ass dragons and our mascot can beat up your mascot. (But please, enough about throwing batteries/snowballs/battery-filled snowballs at Santa. We’ve heard it all, already.)
Philadelphia is also a wonderful place very much worthy of its nickname of “the city of brotherly love,” however, and you can look no further than this video for evidence. Recorded by Johnny Showcase, the scene shows drunken Philadelphians at Jim’s Steaks on South Street (the best cheesesteaks in the city, IMO) at 3 a.m. last Friday night, coming together for a rousing chorus of “End of the Road” by Philly natives Boys II Men while waiting for their food.
You don’t have to be from Philly for the video to make your heart swell three sizes, and special props to Yellow Shirt who was just barely sober enough to slur out “it’s unnatural” for the camera before pulling some kind of crazy head banging move. I’d like to think he needed a “wit wiz” most of all that night.
Since it was uploaded Tuesday the video has gotten more than a half-million views, and even Boys II Men themselves took notice:
