‘Pokémon Go’ And The 2016 Election Have Finally Collided

Pokémon Go is everywhere — and the Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton campaigns have taken note.

Clinton announced Thursday that she will be holding a campaign event at a Pokémon Go gym in Lakewood, Ohio. The listing on her campaign website, under the header “Gotta Catch ‘Em All,” reads: “Join us as we go to the Pokestop in Madison Park and put up a lure module, get free pokemon, & battle each other while you register voters and learn more about Sec. Hillary Clinton!!! Kids welcome!”

During a stump speech Thursday, the presumptive Democratic nominee for president even tried her hand at topical stand-up, joking, “I don’t know who created Pokémon Go… Get them to have Pokémon Go-To-The-Polls!”

Not to be outdone, the Donald Trump campaign released a Facebook ad on Thursday using the Pokémon Go logo — distorted to say “Crooked Hillary” — and the app’s theme music to mock the Democratic nominee. The video shows a photograph of Clinton being captured by a pokéball. Afterward, an information card that reads “Crooked Hillary, Career Politician” pops up, claiming “Next Evolution: Unemployed.”

Pokémon Go is now reportedly more popular than Facebook and Twitter and is raking in 1.6 million a day from iPhone users alone.
