Watch Michigan Police Officers Surprise Minor Traffic Violators With Gifts From Their Christmas Wish Lists

Getting pulled over by the police is almost never a good thing. And the citizen-police interactions dominating the current news cycle are completely awful. But this is very good.

Officers in Lowell, Michigan recently went out of their way to show appreciation for the citizens of their city by setting up the most generous speed trap ever created. The cops pulled motorists over for random traffic violations (i.e. tinted windows) near a shopping complex, then engaged the nervous drivers in small talk, artfully steering the conversation towards their Christmas wish lists. That info was surreptitiously relayed to a team of police elves, and the items were delivered during each traffic stop, setting the stage for some touching reactions.

“While we don’t encourage minor traffic violations,” the text at the end of the video reads, “it’s important for police departments to take the time to show their citizens just how much they care.”

The motorists, it can safely be assumed, were not cited for their violations.
