Ricky Gervais’ Laugh Turned Into A Dance Track Is Exactly What Hell Sounds Like

Sartre was wrong. Hell isn’t other people, unless all of those people are Ricky Gervais going through a giggle fit.

We don’t know what possessed Eclectic Method to turn the high-pitched laughs of everyone’s favorite little fat man with the pug-nosed face into a dance track. But if we had to guess, we’d say he got the instructions through his neighbor’s dog.

To be fair to the producer, he’s actually leaning on a pretty strong tradition in electronic music of turning repetitive laughing/irritating sounds into tracks you can move to. Just take a listen to the foundational ballroom track “The Ha Dance” built around a gibberish sample from Trading Places.

And Eclectic Method himself has done worse. A quick visit to his YouTube page reveals another track built on the screechy voice of Elmo and the odd chest-thumping scene from The Wolf Of Wall Street. Not to mention, the Gervais’ track grows on you in a Stockholm sort of way after repeated listens.

So maybe Hell isn’t listening to Gervais laugh endlessly over a club track, but there’s almost certainly a version of it where sinners are forced to listen to teenagers incorrectly quote Gervais’ views on religion until the End of Days.
