Seahawks-Falcons Live Blog, Second Half

It appears the Falcons are tired of their playoff choker narrative and that Tony Gonzalez has no plans on having his career end today. The Falcons have punished Seattle’s front with the run, taking advantage of Chris Clemons’ absence and exploiting Bruce Irvin’s vulnerability against the ground game.

Seattle fell behind early, fitting the pattern of last week. Matt Ryan was late getting a potential opening touchdown pass to Roddy White, so Atlanta had to settle for a field goal. Marshawn Lynch then fumbled for the three straight game, this time after getting hit in the nuts by Thomas DeCoud. Atlanta recovered, but gave it right back with a Ryan interception drilled straight to a defender down the middle of the field.

Tony Gonzalez has a few crazy catches in the opening half. The first came in the back of the end zone to give his team a 10-0 lead. It was actually a pretty huge half for tight ends in general. Zach Miller has five catches for 94 yards for the Seahawks to lead all receivers.

Miller didn’t have the biggest catch of the half. That belonged to Roddy. The Seahawks failed to convert a 4th and 1 deep in Atlanta territory, down 13-0. A few plays later, Matt Ryan hit a bomb to Roddy in the end zone, with a doubled over Richard Sherman only able to sit and watch the catch from the four-yard line. No obnoxious finger wagging and cuckoo motions on that play.

Seattle looked like they were gonna eke out a score just before half and keep things marginally interesting, but then Russell Wilson got sacked on a 3rd and goal. The Seahawks had no timeouts and the time couldn’t get a final snap off in time, so it’s a very humbling 20-0 deficit at half for the young team.
