A Selfie Video Earns An Arsonist 20 Years In Prison And A $60 Million Fine

We all take selfies, but did you ever think that one of your selfies or videos would land you in prison? Well, Wayne Allen Huntsman found out the hard way. Huntsman plead guilty on Friday for starting the 2014 California wildfire known as King Fire, which raged for well over a month and destroyed close to 100,000 acres in El Dorado County, California southwest of Lake Tahoe.

The video shows Huntsman standing between two small brush fires, he exclaims proudly, “I’m stuck in the middle, babe!” Unfortunately, he does not begin to sing the Stealers Wheel classic, “Stuck in the Middle With You.”

A retired firefighter rescued Huntsman fleeing from the fire’s origin. Huntsman showed him the clip that he just filmed and that’s when the retired firefighter decided to make a video of his own and hand it over to authorities. Huntsman was arrested a few days later, but it took over 2 years for him to be convicted. Huntsman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison and will have to pay $60 million in fines.

Huntsman plead guilty and told the court, “I plead guilty because I did it.” Well, at least he didn’t use the ‘That’s not me, that’s my evil twin brother’ defense.
