You Might Soon Be Able To Discover What Jennifer Lawrence Tastes Like

If you’re like me, you’ve spent a lot of time wondering what various celebrities taste like. Not in THAT way, but in the if-you-were-a-cannibal way (also, I am a cannibal). So we have some good news: if an apparently serious startup has its way, you might soon be able to bite into a slice of Jennifer Lawrence.

The first thing you see when you visit Bite Labs are the words “EAT CELEBRITY MEAT.” Then:

We start with top-quality ingredients, and time-honored recipes for the creation of fine cured meats. We mix celebrity and animal meats, grown in house through a proprietary culturing process, into curated salami blends. Starting with biopsied myoblast cells, we grow our healthy, rich, meats in Bite Labs’ own bioreactors.

Our process yields high-quality, luxury protein, in a sustainable manner that eliminates the environmental and ethical concerns associated with traditional livestock production. (Via)

Examples include:

It sounds like a joke, but it’s not, at least not according to one of its founders, “Kevin.”

Kevin says there are five employees who “are working full time on this” and that while there is no product ready for market, they are “100 percent serious in prompting widespread discussion about bioethics, lab-grown meats, and celebrity culture—this is very important to us. Making celebrity meat a reality from there will all depend on our ability to build a user-base.” (Via)

So if you have any Madonna DNA you can spare, let Kevin know, assuming you’re ready for a future where you can “pretend” you’re Hannibal every night. “I had Julia Stiles yesterday. I think I’ll fry up DMX tonight.”
